Mano Erina – Sekai wa Summer Party

Sekai wa Summer Party is Mano Erina’s 3rd major single and it was released on July 29th, 2009. It reached #10 on the Oricon Weekly Charts and has sold 18,647 copies.

1. Sekai wa Summer Party
2. Jasmine Tea
3. Sekai wa Summer Party (Instrumenal)

Sekai wa Summer Party rides the same train that her previous a-side was on, except this time it has less emphasis on the piano and instead on a stronger, edgier synth-pop arrangement with refreshing brass and some cute H!P vocals on the side. You can tell that Erina’s vocals have slightly improved as she now sounds more comfortable and in-tune with her new upbeat sound. Think of this as Hajimete no Keiken but better.

The b-side is completely the opposite however. Jasmine Tea is more like her older songs in that it’s slower but however is still lacking that Mano piano(get the reference? ;D) that I’ve grown used to hearing in her songs. The song is extremely simple in the instrumental department, which kind of puts Mano’s vocals as the primary sound. Fortunately, their very tolerable this time around as she doesn’t try anything too out there. It’s a cute and simple Mano-type song.

I thought that with making an “updated” version of her previous a-side, and then pairing it up with a very safe and enjoyable b-side was a wise decision by Tsunku. I am however missing her old sound just a bit, but since it is still kind of present in the b-sides, I prefer this set up instead of having an upbeat b-side(remember Nakimushi  Yowamushi?).
