Already on their 42nd single, Momosu is quickly coming out with new releases and I really think Tsunku should give himself a break and think about what direction to take for the group. Onna ga Medatte Naze Ikenai is just like the last four a-sides we’ve had from the group, synth heavy pop. This time around, there aren’t any bizarre voice modifications(Kimagure Princess) nor any Eri line hogging, unfortunately. Actually, the structure and line distribution in this song is terribly boring, although the energetic and high-octane rhythm and undeniably catchy melody do keep me interested. I can’t deny that it’s a good song but if Tsunku continues with this formula for the next single, I will be beyond uninterested.
At least Tsunku did something different on Nakidasu Kamo Shirenai yo. Strangely enough, it isn’t your brass heavy, generic b-side but instead it’s got a ton of hip-hop influences. I will always say that H!P+hip-hop will forever sound awkward and that is still the case in this song, although I do admit that the vocals from EVERYONE(even Sayu) did a great job of matching with the heavy beats and darker theme. If your going to pass on this song, at least give it one listen for Junjun’s unexpected solo near the end.
Now sure the b-side was different and all, but the a-side just feels like recycled material. Like a certain blogger friend claimed, it sounds like a Momosu version of Buono!’s MY BOY. Even so, I can’t deny but like it but here’s hoping their album will bring variety!
